How to Find Your Ring Size at Home (Printable Guide)

Ordering a ring online is easy — until you have to figure out the size. Good news: you can measure your ring size at home in about five minutes, without any special tools.

Method 1: The string and ruler test

  1. Cut a piece of string or floss about 6 inches long.
  2. Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you'll wear the ring on. It should slide over the knuckle with a little resistance — not tight, not loose.
  3. Mark where the string meets, then lay it flat against a ruler.
  4. Measure the length in millimeters and compare with a ring size chart.

Method 2: Measure an existing ring

  1. Take a ring that fits the intended finger.
  2. Lay it flat on a ruler and measure the inside diameter in millimeters (the inner edge, not the outside).
  3. Compare with a size chart — each size corresponds to a diameter (e.g., US size 6 ≈ 16.5 mm).

Method 3: Our printable guide

Download our ring size guide — print it at 100% scale, place your ring over the circles, and match the inside edge. It's the easiest way to be sure.

When you're between sizes

Go up. Rings are easier to resize down, and a slightly looser fit is more comfortable through the day — fingers swell with heat, salt, and exercise.

If it's a surprise gift

  • Borrow a ring she wears on the right finger and measure that (or use Method 2).
  • Ask her best friend or sister — they usually know.
  • Check her jewelry box for rings she wears often; measure the one that fits the target finger.
  • Still unsure? Choose our 30-day easy return policy — if the size is off, exchanging is simple.

A few extra tips

  • Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are largest.
  • Measure warm fingers — cold fingers run smaller.
  • For stacking rings, some people prefer a half-size up for comfort.
